Meet the Team
Principal physiotherapist and practice owner Paul Fien has specialised in sports and musculoskeletal practice for over 25 years.
Paul's many years of practical experience have exposed him to broad range of acute and long term injuries - with Paul particularly enjoying the challenge of complex chronic injury recovery and management.
Paul has lead physiotherapy services for St George Rugby League and the University of Queensland Red Heavies Rugby Union - while also enjoying some 'guest appearances' for the Brisbane Lions. Outside of the various football codes, Paul previously co-ordinated physiotherapy services for Tri-Alliance triathlon squad and has treated many national and international level athletes in track and field and cycling. A little know fact about Paul is that somewhere in his past he even enjoyed a stint as physiotherapist for the Holden Racing Team at Bathurst!
APA Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist
With Masters qualifications in both Physiotherapy and Sports Physiotherapy as well as undergraduate qualifications in Exercise Physiology, senior physiotherapist, Nigel Smith, has a particular interest and expertise in exercise prescription - more specifically the transition from fundamental to more functional exercise.
Nigel has consolidated his studies with extensive practical experience in sports-specialised practices and has previously worked with the Brisbane Roar Football Club and also the Queensland Reds Rugby Union Team.
Nigel is currently completing a PhD focusing on hamstring muscle Injuries in elite football players. Nigel is available for consultations on Tuesdays and Thursday.
After completing a Bachelor of Sports and Exercise Science and Masters of Physiotherapy, Tom joined the team at Brisbane Sports and Spinal in 2017. Since that time, he has been involved in numerous sporting teams and event across various levels, including UQ Rugby Football Club, UQ Swimming Club, Toowong Football Club and a physiotherapist at he 2018 Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast. Tom also spends time teaching in the physiotherapy program at the University of Queensland. He loves his teaching role as it allows him to help the next generation of physiotherapists coming through.
Tom is passionate about exercise. His background in exercise science has allowed him to bring a mixture of skills, both hands on and exercise prescription, to his physio work. Tom utilises manual therapy and breathing exercises in combination with movement patterns to help you move better for your sport or activity. His goal is to help you move better and get back to exercise! Tom is also trained in DNS (Developmental Neuromuscular Stabilisation) and is certified by 'The Running Clinic'.
Outside of work, Tom enjoys exercising in all forms! Running, lifting, yoga, swimming, you’ll find him being active in some way.
